Sept 2018 - Baltimore Book Festival!

Man it’s been some time!

Good news is that I was invited to give my “Hit Confirm” presentation on the history of character design for video games. I also made a great number of new prints for this show that I haven’t sold before! This is going to be quite exciting, provided that the weather isn’t as sweltering as it was last year. ^_^ Here’s just one among many new prints I’ll have available!

Anyway, I’ve also been busy taking a course from Paintable.cc in strengthening my illustrations. I believe I’ve made some improvements to my conceptual understandings, and I have some steps here. It’s an update on an illustrations I made a few years ago. Quite refreshing to revisit this.

After a few more modifications, I’ll have another print to show off! Here’s a dump of some other smaller pieces I’ve done. That Spider-Man PS4 game is calling me…

Escape Velocity 2018!

So my presentation on character design in video game history which I titled "Hit Confirm" was well-received enough that I've been requested to give again this year and Escape Velocity!  Certainly exciting, and I'm hoping to give a better performance this time around.

I've been keeping myself busy with commission work for a fantasy card game and the #MerMay event started by Tom Bancroft.  I've been realizing that I work better when I have a hand drawing as means of getting my thoughts down first.  Makes the digital process a lot less intimidating.  I'll employ that approach more often from now on.  I'm happy with the work I've done since I last wrote here.  You can see some of it below!

Upcoming events! (Sept 2017)

We had another Southern MD Comic Con last weekend!  Part of me wishes that we could have it back at the Capitol Clubhouse in Waldorf, MD, as we had a much bigger audience and greater turnout.  This was great all the same!  Met some awesome folks and had some fun showing people how to draw chibi.  Thanks for everyone who showed up!

Next up is the Escape Velocity where I am to give a presentation on the history of character design for video games!  It promises to be a very major function, and I'm stoked for it.  Hope to see you there!  In the meantime, check out some of the cosplayers from the Southern MD Convention!

Upcoming events! (Aug 2017)

I just finished a workshop in character design at the Washington County Public Library, and what a time we had!  There were very promising young talents there that I hope will pursue their passions onward.  I recommended the anatomical training of former Disney animator Aaron Blaise for those struggling with the human form.  Below is a video clip of the workshop!

As for the next show, I'm slated to appear with my long time partners of the Art Way Alliance for this year's Southern Maryland Comic Con.  I'm blown away by the fact that Bryan Tillman, an old classmate of mine from the Savannah College of Art Design, is going to be presenting.  I'm inspired to up my art game in his presence.  Hope to see you there!

Here is a gallery of some of the cosplayers at the con.  Always a treat!
